I surprised myself when I started this story. I'm a 300+ pages kind of guy. What I enjoy from these long novels are great characterizations, a vivid construction of setting and engaging plots. What surprised me about Skybound was the lack of many things I normally expect from long novels, yet managing to still enjoy it.
What thoroughly impressed me was the atmosphere
. I felt myself standing on the precipice, with my back exposed to a world set afire, with smoke feeding overcast skies. The world is tinted an ashen color reminiscent of violence born from war. And in the midst of this uncertain era, our two characters (Felix and Baldur) can only await for their end of the world.
It was haunting, beautiful, and definitely engaging.
